Monks Cross chosen charity for 2019 is the Snappy Trust, formerly known as Snappy (Special Needs Activities and Play Provision for York),
Originally founded in 1985 by four parents who felt that their children had a tough time over the school holidays because of limited time with friends. They got together with one of the school’s head teachers and arranged to bring some of the children into school for a few days over the summer holidays to enjoy some play activities – and Snappy was born!
They have grown a lot since then and now support over 300 children, young people and their families each and every year. They have expanded their programmes to include a variety of activities and events and aim to empower our children and young people by developing confidence, independence and social skills but mostly, we give our children and young people the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, have fun and make friends. Snappy is very proud their reputation across the York area and of the work the incredible team.
Monks Cross will be working on a number initiatives over the year to help raise awareness and much needed funds for Snappy.

Ahead of the clubs move to the new York Community Stadium in mid 2019, Monks Cross Shopping Centre have been busy creating stronger links with their soon-to-be neighbour.
Fans of the club may have noticed Monks Cross Shopping Park as shirt sponsors of the club for their last season at Bootham Crescent. With Both Monks Cross and York City embarking into a period of rejuvenation, the newly formed partnership makes perfect sense.
Katherine Sharp, Centre Manager for Monks Cross Shopping Park, said: “We are delighted to to create a partnership with York City Football Club for the 2018-19 season. As we move into the first phase of a new period for Monks Cross, strengthening bonds with our soon to be neighbour was of key importance to us. We look forward to seeing the new stadium continue to take shape, alongside the exciting developments at Monks Cross.

Something we couldn’t live without, even for a month, is Pizza Hut! So we’ve put in a word with the pizza experts themselves to see if they can pull some strings for us. They’re now offering at our restaurant a range of delicious NEW vegan pizzas, including:
- Vegan Jack ‘N’ Ch**se: Vegan ch**se, tomato sauce, BBQ jackfruit, sweetcorn, red onions, peppers and a BBQ drizzle.
- Vegan Veggie: Vegan ch**se, tomato sauce, spinach, sweetcorn, peppers, red onions and mushrooms.
- Vegan Margherita: Vegan ch**se and tomato sauce.Buttt unfortunately this offer is only running until the end of January so make sure you pop down and dig in before it’s too late.
Light Vegan Bites.
Not everyone has time to stop for a full meal when they’re out shopping, so we’ve had a browse around our two favourite coffee shops for some lighter bites that definitely make you popular with your animal friends.
Costa Coffee and Starbucks both offer vegan friendly options for food and drinks in store. Why not try Costa’s chipotle bean and butternut squash wrap or Starbucks vegan chocolate and raspberry cake?
Don’t forget to swap out dairy milk for their soy, coconut or almond so you can pair their delicious drink range with your snacks.
Beauty without Bunnies
Being vegan isn’t just about what you eat, it’s also about the products you use, for example your makeup! Finding makeup and other beauty products that hasn’t been tested on animals can be difficult so we’ve searched high and low to find you all the brands that our stores stock that are cruelty free and vegan.
If you’re hoping not to break the bank when shopping for cosmetics then Primark is the first stop on our list. Their own brand cosmetics line, Primark PS, are 100% certified cruelty free and coveted with Leaping Bunny status. Read all about their decision not to test on animals here.

Monks Cross Shopping Park is teaming up with York charity Snappy over the festive period. Shoppers are being asked to visit the Gift Giving Tree in the Shopping Parks Information Centre and collect a tag from the tree to donate a Christmas present.
Snappy is a registered charity working with children and young people of York with wide ranging disabilities, from learning difficulties to profound physical disabilities. The volunteers work to develop confidence, independence and social skills but mostly, to give the children and families the opportunity to enjoy new experience have fun and make friends.

York’s Monks Cross Shopping Park, is embarking on an exciting redevelopment programme with a series of changes and improvements to further enhance the success of the park and transform the shopper experience for the future.
Following on from significant investment, stage one of the improvements will see upgraded frontages installed across the shop facades, providing a contemporary, fresh look and feel throughout. Plans also include transforming the walkway, by updating the existing canopy and creating an interactive recreational space on the western terrace, complete with children’s play area.
Greater focus will be given to food and beverage operator’s, with the addition of six pod units generating a more social and convivial space.
Several new tenants are also set to arrive at Monks Cross strengthening the retail offering. Superdrug will be opening a new 5,000 sq ft store in late November, bringing an additional jobs to the area. Shoppers will be delighted with additional beauty, skincare and perfume available at Monks Cross just in time for Christmas.
Work has commenced on the former BHS store. The site is being subdivided to create multiple units, with Mothercare confirming they will be opening in the early 2019. As a leading retailer for parents and young children, their arrival will assist in shaping the future for Monks Cross.
