Earlier this month the Centre Management team at Monks Cross took part in the Dementia Friends training programme.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition. The Programme Partnerships team worked with Monks Cross to successfully rollout Dementia Friends and guidance so the shopping park can work towards becoming more dementia friendly.
Centre Manager Katherine Sharp said of the training, we are very proud to have taken part in this training, with 1 in 6 people above the age of 80 having dementia, it’s an illness which effects so many of us in so many different ways. Being Dementia Friends means we at the centre have been able to put ourselves in the shoes of someone living with the disease and turning that understanding into action.”
